Distractions, emergency medical situations and a number of other reasons may result in people driving the wrong way. When drivers in Atlantic City, and elsewhere, cross into oncoming traffic, it may leave other motorists with nowhere to go. As a result, collisions may occur, which may cause serious injuries or death for the drivers of the vehicles involved, as well as their passengers.
A wrong way driver is purportedly responsible for causing a fatal auto accident that occurred in Old Bridge recently. According to reports, a 45-year-old man struck another vehicle after he began traveling south in the northbound traffic lanes on Route 9. It is unknown at this time what may have contributed to the man driving the wrong way.
The wrong way driver was reportedly killed in the collision, as was the 37-year-old woman who was driving the car that he hit and a passenger in her vehicle. Witnesses reported that emergency responders had to cut one of the vehicles open in order to extricate at least one person. Two other passengers also suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The types and severity of their injuries are unknown.
