Transgender Students, Social Media Among Topics at NJSBA Meeting March 3rd

Atlantic City, N.J. February 26, 2016 – The New Jersey School Board Association’s (NJSBA) Interactive Technology Conference will feature three attorneys from Cooper Levenson’s Education/School Law practice group discussing such topics as social media and transgender students. The conference, scheduled for Thursday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will be held at the Princeton Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, 100 College Road East. Princeton, N.J.

William S. Donio, Esq. and Amy Houck Elco, Esq. will present @BoardMembers #BeSmartAboutSocialMedia! from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. They will discuss the basics that school board members need to know about social media, including the proper handling of interactions with the general public on personal accounts and official pages. The presentation will include legal precedent, case analysis, and a discussion of the rights and consequences, both positive and negative, of social media usage by board members.

Attendees can join Donio, Elco and Kelli A. Prinz, Esq. for a Lunch & Learn session on Transgender Students: Transitioning Legal Requirements in Schools from 12 noon to 1 p.m. They’ll discuss how schools historically had distinct gender lines separating facilities and programs but now must address transgender and gender non-conforming students. From bathrooms to pronouns, there are a myriad of important issues to address for school boards.

The conference is expected to be attended by school board members, business administrators, superintendents, IT directors, curriculum directors, content supervisors, principals and teachers. Cost is $99 for members and $398 for nonmembers, and includes continental breakfast and lunch. Preregistration is required. For online registration, visit http://www.njsba.org. For questions, email Jo Ann Dempsey, NJSBA Business Partnership Consultant, at jadempsey@njsba.org.
