Ojserkis and Thornton Present at Medical Staff Services Education Conference April 20th in Cape May, New Jersey

Jill T. Ojserkis and Kevin J. Thornton, partners at Cooper Levenson, presented at the 24 th Annual Education Conference of the New Jersey State Association of Medical Staff Services (NJSAMSS) held at Congress Hall, Cape May, NJ., April 20-21, 2017.

Their presentation included portions of a Medical Executive Committee meeting and a physician Fair Hearing, with audience interaction, using a fact pattern which Medical Staff professionals found true to life. Ojserkis served as the moderator and took the role as counsel for the Medical Staff. Thornton took the role as counsel for the physician under review. Members of the audience served in various other roles. Attendees received continuing education credits for attending the conference.

Ojserkis is Chair of the firm’s Healthcare Law Practice Group. She is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell in Healthcare. She was named as one of the Best Attorneys in Business – Healthcare by NJ Biz in 2015. She has been recognized for inclusion in the New Jersey Super Lawyers list for Healthcare annually since 2012. Ojserkis co-authored a chapter on “Physician/Hospitals Relationships” in the 2016 American Health Lawyers Publication “Representing Physicians Handbook – 4 th Edition”. She presented before prior NJSAMSS Annual Education Conferences on the topics of Economic Credentialing and Current Medical Staff Services Practices in New Jersey in 2015; on Physician Fair Hearings along with Thornton in 2013; and on Medical Staff Bylaws in 2010.

Thornton is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group with more than 30 years experience in every type of disputed commercial matter. His healthcare litigation experience includes the enforcement of physician non-competes, physician employment agreements and restrictive covenants. He also represents health care institutions and providers in intra-hospital Fair Hearings and has served as a Fair Hearing Officer or Presiding Officer in a number of matters. Thornton presented before the NJSAMSS with Ojserkis on Physician Fair Hearings in 2013.
