Summary: On December 15, 2014, the New Jersey Assembly approved broader disclosure requirements for companies that experience data breaches in an attempt to better protect consumers from identity theft. Companies such as JPMorgan Chase, TD Bank, N.A., Home Depot Corp., Kmart Corp. and Neiman Marcus Group Ltd. LLC are among the larger names of the hundreds of companies that experienced data breaches this year. These incidents have prompted many states, including New Jersey, to revisit its data breach notification laws. California enacted new data privacy laws earlier this year and New Jersey, among other states, is following its lead.
