To Our School Board Community:

We have been trying to anticipate and quickly respond to your questions during this time, given the unprecedented challenges presented to our Boards related to COVID-19 school closures. Today Governor Murphy announced that face coverings will be required for all students at all times while inside a school building, regardless of social distancing, unless doing so would inhibit the individual’s health.

Additionally, the Governor announced that the updated guidance from the New Jersey Department of Education on face coverings for student will also include several exception to this standard including an exception for certain students with disabilities.

The Governor also announced that the Department is sharing its checklist of specific items that its county offices will use to ensure that district plans meet the State’s guidance.

Lastly, the Governor announced the Department is currently finalizing an FAQ document about reopening plans.
