Fredric Shenkman to speak on Gun Law in New Jersey Wed., Dec. 12, 2018 in Elizabeth, N.J.

Fredric L. Shenkman, Esq. of Cooper Levenson will be among the presenters providing guidance at “Confidently Navigate the Complexities of Firearm Laws – From the Gun Show to the Holster,” a seminar on Wed. Dec. 12 at the Hilton Newark Airport, 1170 Spring Street, Elizabeth, N.J.

This seminar is intended for attorneys, paralegals, law enforcement, government officials, firearm dealers and advocates for gun rights or gun control. It will cover:

  • lesser-known constitutional aspects of firearms law, including the first amendment issues that surround gun shows;
  • how the Firearms Owners Protection Act affects the possession of automatic weapons;
  • legal requirements for an individual who buys multiple handguns in the same purchase;
  • unique purchasing requirements for Title 2 firearms
  • how to utilize NFA gun trusts to share possession of Title 2 firearms among multiple individuals; and
  • how to fight gun confiscations by law enforcement and contest errors in background checks.

In addition, the presenters will identify those situations in which attorneys should or must break confidentiality with their clients.

A partner in Cooper Levenson’s Atlantic City office, Shenkman has decades of experience in both transactional work and commercial litigation. His transactional work includes the drafting of asset sales; cross-purchase and redemption agreements; asset based financing agreements; post-employment restrictive covenants; business separation agreements; PILOT Agreements (payment in lieu of taxes agreements) and work-outs. He has lectured extensively on general equity and attorney ethics to various bar associations and Inns of Court. He also served as chairperson and as secretary of District 1 of the New Jersey District Ethics Committee.
