Atlantic City, N.J. — Nov. 22, 2017 –The course will be offered at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Hotel on Dec. 4-5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This seminar will present the essential requirements surrounding IEP development, discipline procedures, due process hearing requirements and more.
Houck Elco will present on Tuesday, Dec. 5 on Discipline and Expulsion Essentials for Special Needs Students (10:15-11:15 a.m.). This session will cover the legal rules governing removal or expulsion, providing services during disciplinary removal, handling disciplinary changes in placement, and multiple suspensions and denial of FAPE (a free appropriate public education).
Prinz will present on Tuesday, Dec. 5 on Bullying and Special Education Students (1:15-2:15 pm). This session will cover when bullying is a denial of FAPE, the legal considerations of moving bullied students to safer environments, addressing bullying through IEPs and 504 plans, and legally appropriate school policies and staff training.
Houck Elco will also present on Due Process Rights: Ensuring Appropriate Practices During Disputes (3:30-4:30 pm). The session will provide a due process overview and address statutes of limitations. It also will cover notice requirements and timing issues, informal dispute resolution including mediation, resolution sessions and negotiation, how to prepare for a due process hearing, and appealing decisions.
