People are always ready to take a vacation. Whether it is a chance to get away from home or work, airlines fly hundreds of millions of people each year to various destinations.
While some people prefer to take their vacation by car, 5% to 6% percent of trips are taken using air flights, according to the Bureau of Transportation statistics.
If air travel is in your vacation plans, it is important to think about potential personal injuries that might happen while traveling.
Keeping safety in mind while traveling by air can ensure you avoid personal injury and safely reach your destination.
In May, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported 75.8 million domestic passengers and 11.3 million international passengers on U.S. airline flights.
The nation’s airports are busy places with millions of travelers daily.
Some simple travel tips while flying include:
· Watch your step: When you get to the busy airport, avoid rushing. Arrive with enough time before your flight so you can navigate the airport. It will ensure you don’t make a misstep or get knocked down by others who are in a hurry, especially during the busy holiday travel seasons.
· Secure Overhead Luggage: Make sure to follow the airline rules when it comes to the size and weight of hand-held luggage. If your carry-on luggage is too heavy or big to fit into the locker, it could cause the locker to break open and fall onto you or someone else, causing injury.
· Listen carefully: Follow the flight attendant’s instructions. There will be times when the attendant tells you to buckle or unbuckle your seat belt. Follow those instructions to stay safe. If you are told to buckle up, and you fail to do so, you face potential injury if the airplane goes through turbulence and you fall out of your seat.
The Federal Aviation Administration estimates that 58 people are injured by turbulence each year because they are not wearing seat belts on an airline.
An air traveler’s main goal is to get to the destination where they are going and to do it safely.
Keeping these safety tips in mind can be a big help to avoid injury while traveling at the airport.
